Can SIP Build UK systems be used for Passive House projects — and how does your scope fit with other trades?

Thinking about Passive House or low-energy design? Here we explain how SIP Build UK systems support high-performance projects — and where our scope fits alongside architects, engineers and other trades.

Our SIP panels are capable of meeting Passive U-value requirements. However, if looking to achieve Passive certification, other elements such as thermal bridging must be considered.

It’s very often the case with previous projects we have completed that our SIP system is used to take a huge step toward the thermal performance required. This is then followed up with a small internal or external lining of additional insulation to completely remove thermal bridging at panel junctions, window and door apertures, and additional structural elements such as steel or glulam beams.

The devil is in the detail with these standards — hence the popularity of SIPs for high-performance, thermally efficient, airtight dwellings.

As a business, we are a specialist frame provider, designing, engineering and installing our SIP system based on the final, detailed, dimensional drawings provided by the project architect.

Our initial line and point load engineering provides the dimensional set-out and structural loadings required by your independent foundation engineer and groundworker or contractor.

We then install our system to these foundations, including SIP walls, roof, all internal walls, intermediate floors, and additional structure such as steels where required for our frame — along with cranage.

External and internal finishes, along with all other trades including windows and doors, are by others and are not part of our system.
